Swiss National Holiday Celebration

July, 10, 2006

SWISS NATIONAL HOLIDAY CELEBRATION
SAND LAKE, NY
SUNDAY JULY 30, 2006
STARTING AT 2:30.PM

We are very grateful to our Vice President Paul Tobler, for inviting us again to his wonderful property for the celebration of our Swiss National Holiday. We are commemorating the founding of Switzerland that took place in 1291 at the Ruetli Meadow, where the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden formed an alliance that evolved into the Swiss Confederation we know today.

We will meet rain or shine and start the official part of our celebration at 4:30pm with the greeting and taped english address to the Swiss Abroad by the President of the Confederation, Moritz Leuenberger. Later we will listen to and maybe sing along some Swiss songs. In the evening our former president Heinrich Medicus, will present a video on Appenzell he made on his recent trip to Switzerland.

Unfortunately on Saturday, July 29, all the members of the Swiss Consulate General will be participating in a special event on Ellis Island, organized within the framework of the US-wide Swiss Roots project, and will not able to send a representative to our festivities. But of course they send all their best wishes for a successful celebration in Sand Lake.

Hot Bratwurst, Schueblig, Landjaeger, rolls, coffee and soda will be for sale as well as the traditional First Of August pin. This year the funds will go to help the Pro Patria organization preserve historical gardens and parks.

Bring your own salads, desserts, etc. If possible also bring chairs and pic nic tables.

Lets make this celebration a success and I hope to see many of you at our Bundesfeier!

For the Organizing committee
