July Picnic For Swiss Youngsters - Guilderland, NY

This last July, Marie-Louise and Peter McHugh hosted a picnic at their house for a group of Swiss youngsters on behalf of the Hudson Mohawk Swiss Society. Verena Takekoshi, Lois and Bill Wilson came to lend a hand. The children were on their way back home after having spent some time at a camp for children suffering from cancer in the Adirondacks.
Their chaperones Kim Edwards and Carmen Schuerch did a wonderful job showing the children as much as possible of the area during their stay. This was their first visit to an "American" home.

We are mourning the loss our our good friend and long time member Hildegard Medicus, wife of our past President Heinrich Medicus. We are going to miss her.

2008 National Swiss Day Celebration - August 3rd

Here are a few pictures of our picnic at Paul Tobler's house. Consul Tiziano Pedrioli and his wife Jane celebrated with us. Lots of fun and good company in spite of the uncertain weather.

SWISS NATIONAL HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

We are very grateful to Paul Tobler, our Vice President, for inviting us again to his beautiful home for the celebration of our Swiss National Holiday, the commemoration of the alliance of Uri, Schwyz and Untervalden, sworn in on the Ruetli Meadow in August 1291.

This year we are honored to welcome Consul Tiziano Pedroli and his wife Jane to our festivities. They will represent the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York. The official part of our celebration starts at 4:00pm with the greeting and taped english address to the Swiss Abroad by the President of the Confederation, Mr. Pascal Couchepin. Later we will listen to and sing along some Swiss songs. A great opportunity to enjoy the Swiss “camaraderie” we are famous for!

Hot Bratwurst, Schueblig, Landjaeger, rolls, coffee and soda will be for sale as well as the traditional First of August pin. As usual the funds raised with the sale of the pins will go to help the Pro Patria organization promote Swiss Cultural Itineraries.

Please Bring a dish to share. We will set up a few tables, buffet style, for the enjoyment of all. Don’t forget to bring chairs your own plates and flatware, and picnic tables.
